Mount Rose, Washington: 16 Feb 2020
At only 4301ft, you may falsely believe that this mount does not provide views, guess what it does!!
Actually, it has some of the most scenic views from all points at the summit, and as you climb along the switch backs, you will experience lush green forests, and a very well maintained trail.
The elevation gain is 3500ft in 3.2 miles, safe to say that it is a beautiful conditioning hike.
The trail starts of nice a flat, and takes through a series of switchbacks, before guiding you along a gentle climb.
There are benches located with some great views, even less than 1.2miles in.
In mid Feb there was a fair amount of snow for the last mile or so, nicely packed down, no snow shoes required.
Micro-spikes are a must, as well as poles.
The last push, in my humble opinion would be safest using an ice axe, but we managed just fine with poles and spikes with careful footing.
On a clear day, Elinor is view, Lake Cushman just beckons!
(note to self, check fishing reports there)
This has become one of favorites this year, I plan on exploring the Olympic Mountains a
lot more!
